Terms of service

The plain version of what you can and can’t do with Mirepoix, and what Mirepoix won’t do to you. Written in English, not legalese.

What Mirepoix is and isn’t

Mirepoix is a hosted recipe tool for households. It’s in beta — the service is best-effort, and it runs on a single small server. Uptime is the goal, but reboots and maintenance happen.

What you can do

• Use Mirepoix for your kitchen’s recipes, pantry, shopping, and meal planning.
• Invite people you trust to your kitchen.
• Export your data anytime — see Export for the path.
• Leave any kitchen, delete your kitchen, or delete your account at any time.

What you can’t do

• Access kitchens you don’t belong to, or attempt to.
• Probe the service for security weaknesses without coordinating with the operator first. Responsible disclosure is welcome — see the contact at the bottom of this page.
• Upload content that’s illegal where the operator is located (Virginia, USA).
• Misrepresent who you are, particularly when accepting invitations.
• Own more than one kitchen. You can be a member of as many kitchens as invite you, but you can create, or be made an owner of, only one. If you already owned more than one on 2026-10-11, you keep them all.
• Scrape the site or abuse rate limits. Using Mirepoix’s API with your own token, within its rate limits, isn’t scraping — but a token that keeps going over those limits is switched off automatically.

Your content

Your recipes are yours. By using Mirepoix, you grant the operator only the rights needed to store your content and display it back to you and your kitchen’s members, and, if you publish your kitchen, to show it to anyone who visits while it stays published. The operator does not relicense or resell your content, and does not use it to train machine-learning models, with one exception: for a kitchen that asked for a Pantry diary, you also let the operator and the AI agents working for them read the diary, and that kitchen’s menu history, to study and improve the Pantry and Groceries, including fitting and testing models on them, and what’s learned may change the app for every kitchen, as described under Pantry diary in Data and privacy. Availability and beta status

There’s no uptime guarantee. The service is provided “as is” — the goal is high availability, but don’t depend on Mirepoix for business-critical workflows. Export your data periodically as a backup.

Account termination

You can leave or delete your kitchen, or delete your account, at any time. The operator may terminate accounts that violate these Terms after a notice attempt. The only no-notice case is unambiguous abuse — spam, fraud, or attacks on other kitchens. Short of that, the operator may suspend a kitchen at once, before any notice, while checking a violation: its public pages go away, its members can still read and export it but can’t change it, its AI features stop, nothing is deleted, the operator tells the kitchen’s owner why, and lifting the suspension restores the kitchen as it was.

Changes to these terms

These Terms may change over time. Every change that affects what these Terms mean is recorded, dated, in the Changes list at the bottom of this page — that list is the canonical record of what changed and when. (Typo fixes and rewording that leave the meaning intact are made quietly.)

The operator emails the address on your account in one case only: when a change adds a new restriction on what you can do. That’s the one kind of change you can’t avoid by not using a feature, so it’s the one that warrants reaching your inbox. Everything else — new features, optional integrations, clarifications, or anything that narrows what the operator collects — is recorded in the Changes list, not emailed.

You can leave or delete your account at any time if you don’t like a change.

No warranty

Mirepoix is provided as-is, without warranty of any kind. The operator can’t guarantee the service will be available, error-free, or fit for any particular purpose. The operator’s liability for any loss arising from your use of the service is limited to what’s required by law.

Governing law

These Terms are governed by the laws of the Commonwealth of Virginia, United States.

Reporting content

A published kitchen’s recipes are public because its members chose to publish them. If you think a published page breaks these Terms or infringes your rights, such as your copyright, email support@mirepoix.recipes with the page’s address and what’s wrong with it. The operator looks only at the page you report and may take it down while checking. If a report leads to any action, the operator tells the kitchen’s owner what was reported and what happened.

For help with your account, questions about these Terms or the Data and Privacy practices, requests about your data, or reports of a security weakness, email support@mirepoix.recipes. Email reaches the operator privately; please don’t post account details or security reports on the project’s public bug tracker, which remains the place for ordinary bug reports and feature ideas.

Changes

• 2026-10-15 — Added an exception to “Your content” for the Pantry diary, which the operator keeps only for a kitchen that asks for one. For such a kitchen, you let the operator and the AI agents working for them read the diary, and that kitchen’s menu history, to study and improve the Pantry and Groceries, including fitting and testing machine-learning models on them, and what’s learned may change the app for every kitchen. It is not an exception to the rest of that promise: the operator still doesn’t relicense or resell your content, the diary included. Before this, “Your content” said the operator never used your content to train machine-learning models, and granted only the rights needed to store and show it. It also now says Data and privacy has more than one narrow exception, as it has for some time, instead of “the one narrow exception around shared-catalog improvement.” No new restriction on what you can do.
• 2026-10-11 — Added a limit: each person can own one kitchen. You can still be a member of any number of kitchens. Anyone who already owned more than one keeps them all. It’s a new restriction on what you can do, so account addresses are emailed about it.
• 2026-10-11 — Added kitchen suspension to “Account termination”: the operator may suspend a kitchen at once, before any notice, while checking a violation. A suspended kitchen’s public pages go away and its members can read and export it but not change it; nothing is deleted, the owner is told why, and lifting it restores the kitchen. Before this, the only step the Terms named was terminating an account, after a notice attempt.
• 2026-10-10 — Said that publishing your kitchen lets the operator show its content to anyone while it stays published; before this, the content section covered display only to you and your kitchen’s members. Added “Reporting content”: how to report a published page that breaks these Terms or infringes your rights, and what the operator does with a report. No new restriction on what you can do.
• 2026-10-06 — Added a private support email, support@mirepoix.recipes, for account help, data requests, questions about these Terms or Data and Privacy, and security reports. Before this, the only contact was the public bug tracker.
• 2026-10-02 — Clarified that using Mirepoix’s API with your own token, within its rate limits, isn’t scraping, and said that a token that keeps going over those limits is switched off automatically. The rule against scraping the site or abusing rate limits is unchanged.
• 2026-06-10 — Narrowed when changes are emailed: only a change that adds a new restriction on what you can do is announced by email now. Everything else — new features, clarifications, narrowing what the operator collects — is recorded here in this Changes list instead.
• 2026-05-25 — Initial publication.
