Grouping by store

Stores are optional. Set them up to shop one store at a time, with a list tailored to where you are — in the order you visit them.

Set up your stores

On the Groceries page, open the ⋮ at the right end of the toolbar and tap Edit stores to open the store editor. Type a name in the field at the bottom and press Enter or tap the + to add it. You can keep up to 8 stores.

Your changes save when you save the dialog. It closes, and the page updates in place to show the new layout — no reload, so you keep your place.

Reordering stores

Use the up and down arrows to move a store earlier or later. The order you set here is the order stores appear on the list — arrange them to match your shopping route.

Renaming stores

Tap a store name to edit it in place.

Removing a store

Tap the × to remove a store. If you change your mind, an Undo appears in its place until you save. Removing a store never takes items off your list — they stay in your cart and keep showing at your other stores.

If the store has items placed at it, a note appears warning you what you’ll lose — it tells you how many items have an aisle saved at that store — so you can decide before you save. Removing the store forgets those per-store aisles. The items stay on your list; only where they live at that one store is lost.

How the list groups

With no stores set up, the list is a flat set of aisle groups, and the pill at the left of the toolbar reads Groceries. Once you’ve set up stores, that pill becomes a store picker. It lets you switch between All stores and one store at a time.

All stores shows your whole list — every item you need, grouped by its usual aisle, with no store filter. It’s where you start before you’ve picked a store. Choose a store to narrow down to it.

An item isn’t tied to a single store. It shows wherever you’d buy it. At a full-service store it shows by default — unless you set it aside. At a curated store it shows once you’ve marked it available there. The same item can show at several stores, each with its own aisle.

The same aisle under two different stores remembers separately whether you closed it, so closing Produce at one store leaves it open at another.

Shop one store at a time

The store picker is the pill at the left of the toolbar, at the top of the Groceries page. It always names the store you’re shopping, or All stores. Tap it to open the Shopping at menu; the store you’re shopping is ticked.

Choose a store to shop it. The pill then names that store, and the list below shows what to buy there. Choose All stores to step back to the full list.

It’s a lens, not a filter — you’re always looking through exactly one, and the picker can only ever show one. It appears as soon as you’ve added a single store, so you can flip between All stores and that one.

Your store is remembered

Whichever store you pick sticks. Come back to Groceries later — a new tab, your phone after your laptop, tomorrow morning — and you land back at the store you were last shopping, not at All stores. Pick All stores and that sticks too; it’s a choice like any other, not a reset.

The remembered store is yours, not the kitchen’s. Two people can shop two different stores from the same list at the same time without moving each other’s view.

Full-service and curated stores

Each store is either full-service or curated:

A full-service store shows your whole list. Use this for a supermarket where you’d buy anything.
A curated store shows only the items you’ve marked available there (see below). Use this for a farmer’s market, a butcher, or any shop that carries a few specific things.

Stores start out full-service. To make one curated, open Edit stores and turn off its Full service checkbox. Turn it back on to make the store full-service again. You can do this as you add a new store too — uncheck Full service while adding it, and it’s curated from its first save.

Mark which stores carry an item

Open an item’s ⋮ menu on its Groceries row. Under Available at, you’ll see a checkbox for each of your stores. Each one means “I can get this here.” The checkboxes start out matching the kind of store:

A full-service store starts checked. The item is available there by default, the same as your whole list.
A curated store starts unchecked. The item won’t show there until you check it.

Each checkbox is independent, so the same item can be available at several stores at once — adding it at the butcher doesn’t change anything at the supermarket.

Check a curated store to place an item

Checking a curated store is how you make an item show up there — it starts appearing on that store’s list right away. Unchecking it takes the item back off that store.

Uncheck a full-service store to set it aside

Unchecking a full-service store says you can’t get this item there after all. The item leaves the store’s aisle groups and drops into a Not Available Here list at the bottom of that store’s view. The list is collapsed by default; open it to see what you’ve set aside. Once you open it, it remembers — it stays open across reloads and live updates until you collapse it again.

Setting an item aside doesn’t take it off your list — it still shows at your other stores. To bring it back, open its ⋮ menu from the Not Available Here list and check the store again. If you’d recorded an aisle for it there, that aisle comes back too.

Set the aisle at a store

When you’re shopping a store, the same ⋮ menu records where the item lives at that store, so the same item can sit in a different aisle at each one. See Set an aisle for the store you’re shopping.

Say where a whole aisle is at a store

Setting each item’s aisle one at a time is slow at a big supermarket. Instead, tell Mirepoix once where a whole aisle is. When you’re shopping a store, an aisle that store doesn’t know yet shows Wegmans aisle? (with your store’s name) at the right of its heading. Tap it, type what the store calls that spot — 18A, say, for Pasta, Rice & Grains — and tap Save.

Every item in that aisle moves under 18A at that store, and the heading reads 18A · Pasta, Rice & Grains, so you can still tell what’s there. Anyone else with the list open sees it regroup too. Tell Mirepoix that two aisles are both 18A and they share one heading: 18A · Pasta, Rice & Grains · Canned & Jarred Goods.

An aisle you set for one item still wins. Put an item in Deli at Wegmans and it stays in Deli, even after its usual aisle is set to 18A.
Once a store knows where any aisle is, its aisles sort by name, numbers in order (2, 9, 18A, 18B), unless you’ve arranged that store’s aisles yourself in Edit aisles.
All stores always groups by the usual aisles.

To see every aisle at once, open Edit stores and tap Aisles at Wegmans under the store. Each of your aisles has a box for what that store calls it, blank where you haven’t said yet. Type in a box to set it or change it, or empty it to forget it, which sends that aisle’s items back to their usual aisle. Each box saves as you leave it, without the dialog’s Save. A store you’ve just added gets its boxes once it’s saved.

You can also rename 18A, or remove it, in Edit aisles while shopping that store.

To take an item off your list everywhere for now, tap Skip this trip at the bottom of the menu — see Skip an item this trip. An item you’ve already checked off doesn’t offer it, including in the Not Available Here list; uncheck the item instead to take back the purchase.

Two orderings, not one

Store order and aisle order are separate:

Edit stores sets which store comes first on the list.
Edit aisles sets which aisle comes first within a store.

Both sit in the ⋮ at the right end of the Groceries toolbar.
