Inviting members

Kitchen owners can invite friends and family by email. Members can’t invite — that’s owner-only. (You can promote a member to owner if you want them to invite others.)

How to invite

  1. Tap mirepoix in the navigation bar and choose Kitchen settings.
  2. Scroll to the Members section.
  3. Type the invitee’s email address in the Invite a member field.
  4. Click Send.

mirepoix sends an invitation email with an Accept invitation link and an 8-character code. The invitee clicks the link, confirms their email with the code, and joins the kitchen. (First-time invitees pick a display name on the way in.) See Joining a kitchen for the full walk-through.

After they accept, they appear in the Members list as a regular member.

Pending invitations

Pending invitations appear in their own list above the Members list. They show:

Owners can Revoke any pending invitation by clicking the button next to it. Revoking deletes the invitation immediately — the code in the email no longer works.

Invitations expire after 10 minutes. If someone misses the window, invite them again.

Promoting a member to owner

Owners can promote any member to owner status:

  1. Open Settings → Members.
  2. Find the member’s row.
  3. Click Make owner.

Owners can invite, revoke invitations, and promote/demote others. There’s no upper limit — a household where every adult is an owner is totally normal.

Stepping down as owner

If you’re an owner and want to step down to member, click Step down as owner next to your own name. This only works when there’s at least one other owner in the kitchen — every kitchen needs at least one owner at all times.

Removing a member

Kitchen owners can remove another member (or another owner) from the Members list in Settings. Removal is immediate — the removed person loses access to that kitchen’s recipes, menu, and groceries right away.

To remove someone:

  1. Open SettingsMembers.
  2. Click Remove next to their name.
  3. Confirm in the browser dialog.

The removed person gets an email letting them know they’ve been removed and who did it. If they think it was a mistake, they can ask to be invited again.

Owners and the last-owner rule

Every kitchen needs at least one owner at all times. If a kitchen has a single owner, their row can’t be removed — you’ll see an error telling you to promote another member to owner first. This protects against a kitchen ending up with nobody able to invite or manage it.

Removing yourself

The Remove button isn’t shown on your own row. To leave a kitchen you belong to, use the Danger zone — see Leaving a kitchen.
